PowerPoint Tips: Using the Master Slide

The Master Slide is a valuable tool in creating any Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. Setting up the Master Slide prior to beginning your PowerPoint presentation allows you to format the entire presentation without having to make changes to each and every slide as you create them. This not only keeps the presentation uniform and clean, it also saves you time. Some of the things you can set for the entire presentation on the Master Slide include:


  • Font size, style, and colorBullet size, style, and color

  • Background graphics, such as adding a company logo

  • Slide number, date, and/or copyright information

  • Presentation information and/or author information

To locate the Master Slide in PowerPoint 2003:



  • Go to the View menu

  • Select Master from the drop down menu

  • Select Slide Master from the fly out menu


To locate the Master Slide in PowerPoint 2007:



  • Go to the View tab

  • Select Slide Master from the Presentation Views section
